I had a hard time writing starting this blog last night, not sure why. The idea of being in a new city, even a new timezone, far far away from anything that is familiar (at least I don't have a language barrier! Although the word 'trolley' (moving cart) here is taken for 'streetcar'. Interesting!), has not hit me yet.
New Orleans.
The area of devastation from hurricane Katrina, the land of Mardi Gras, the place to eat your heart out.
To me, it has not formed any sort of shape yet. In fact, I feel like I'm putty in its hand and it will mold me in any way it sees fit.
Being a city, crowds of people, street after street, this experience will somehow in some way change me. What adventure has left a person worse off than before? (Besides Frodo... POOR Samwise Gamgee!)
My first day here was cold. Promised 70/60s and I get 40! I should rewind a little.
My sister, Namira, was super super nice enough to accompany down to NOLA for the day (lots of flights!). We woke up, got to the airport for our 6 am flight, ::fly fly::, immediately boarded our next flight ::fly fly::, lugged our heavy luggage, took a shuttle, got a car, got lost (These roads and drivers are confusing!),
Got out of the airport.. and our GPS wants us to go on this road.. Welcome to New Orleans?
and then got to my apartment! We got to explore a little (Thanks to my sister's friend Cassie!) eat DELICIOUS beignets (I was way too hungry to take a picture.. whoops.. and cold), but then I had a meeting for my housing at 3. What does my sister do? She goes and gets my groceries for me!! And then when she drops them off (and the girls and family of the girls on my program are so nice that they helped take all my groceries up! Thank you!!)... she has to leave :(. For her 7:15 p flight. Talk about a sad panda!!! :( I know we barely got to rest or really eat a decent meal all day, so I felt so bad that she must have been so exhausted when she got back! *Sigh* My Noms is a keeper! (Although she's my sister, so I guess I'd hafta keep her anyways :P ).
Then I did dinner with my internship group at Cafe Maspero and ordered the catfish sandwich:

Oops, can't see the catfish! But it was... SO GOOD!!!! I devoured it
Cute take home boxes
This awesome beautiful pole! And some interesting looking building in the background :P
Bourbon Street!
Overall, a good start to a new adventure but I gotta say.. I was p. sad to see Noms go :( And I will probably be the most homesick puppy ever.
I also think I need this adventure though. To get lost in a city (figuratively, not literally do not worry) and then find myself again, a city full of life, culture, great food, and positive energy. It'll be nice.
3 months of me in New Orleans. Hmm... is the question that is NOLA ready for me or am I ready for NOLA? Probably the latter, I am a wee person.
Another day, another blog probably soon to follow!
Toodles ya'll!
