The Misadventur-ers #1

You cannot go to a new place and not have a bunch of misunderstandings.  When I first went to MSU, I got lost on the first day and rode one of the CATA bus routes twice.  I think I took the 26 (which is like 45 minutes each way) twice before the bus driver gave me a questionable look and I got off... Definitely missed class that day.

Since I've gotten here, I have gotten myself into comical situations.  Getting lost is one just the alternate way of getting somewhere... much longer.. but more story worthy.

My first time getting lost here was definitely comical.  One of the other girls, Takisha, and I needed to go to Family Dollar.  We had gone there before earlier that week and knew it was just a straight shot down Canal St.  We set off walking down Canal Street, waiting for it to be on our right, and conversing at the same time. Maybe because of an interesting encounter with a strange guy in a car, but we just kept walking... and walking.. and walking more.  Things started to look not so familiar and we kept seeing these gorgeous churches and houses that we definitely did not see before.  A 20 minute walk turns into a 30 minute walk into a 40 minute walk and we're really questioning whether or not we really got lost walking straight down a street.  Turns out we managed to pass it (I blame it on weird car guy) and we walked 20 minutes past it!  We had to take a streetcar back to Family Dollar and then finally walked back... 20 minutes.  What an introduction to New Orleans!

The second misunderstanding happened with the shuttle bus.  There are different shuttle buses that Tulane campus provides for the students.  Since we have student IDs, we're technically students and we can use the shuttles.  One of the shuttles takes students to Walmart from our apartment building so me and the other two girls, Molly and Morgan, figured we would go to Walmart and make a grocery trip.  I looked up the bus times and we got on just fine and figured we had time to kill since the next bus didn't come almost an hour and half later.... yeah I was wrong about that.  So the shuttle did come at the time I saw... however it was not the time we wanted to get on.  We got on this shuttle, exclaiming hunger, wanting to go home and put our food in the fridge, and just ready to go.  Yeah.... we went from one strange building to the next to the Fresh Market and then somehow looped around and passed Fresh Market again (and we were already on the bus for 30 minutes at this point) and  manage to go to Walmart again!  We were in pure agony!!!  We f i n a l l y get back home (Almost an hour later) and I looked at the schedule.. yeah turned out there was a bus that came like an hour earlier and went straight to our apartment after and THEN goes to Walmart.... oooh Nishat...

The third misadventure happened today which is why I'm in the mood to write about it.  I figured I needed some time away from my area so I'd come to Tulane campus (cause it's so pretty), get some work done, and come back home.  Yep, of course my plans go astray.  I get on the shuttle, (question whether I got on the right one), saw the Baltimore Ravens practice (which was cool), and then ended up on Tulane campus.  Halfway to the coffee shop, I realized I left my wallet on the shuttle.  ::cue agony cry:: Then I have to wait for the next shuttle (which came 15 minutes later) who calls the shuttle I was on, found my wallet, and tells me to wait for it to come back on campus.  45 minutes later the shuttle finally comes and after holding up the shuttle (sorry everyone!), I get my wallet back! Yay!  I go and get coffee, find the library, and chose a cute spot to sit and work, and try to connect to the internet.  Yeah no, that would be too easy right?  The Tulane Guest network keeps asking me for my guest username.  Although we're technically students, we don't have net IDs or anything so I can't log on to Tulane network.  ::cue agony cry:: (But not really cause I'm in the Quiet section of the library).  I finally get the energy to get up, super frustrated at this point because I've been running around for 3 hours, and go downstairs to find someone to give me internet access.  The angel at the technology desk let me slide through some loopholes and granted me internet access to the Tulane network.  THANK YOU!!  I waited for some time for it to kick in and now I am FINALLY on and nowhere close to finishing my work I have planned out.  But at least I got access to the interwebs (Yaaay!)

The first two misadventures were chuckle worthy, I think my right eye just twitched from the frustration in the third one.  Oy vey!  But I'm finally here, finally got some free internet, settled and now I'm going to do work! But I'm super frustrated and I have to use the bathroom, but I hate leaving my stuff unattended... should I risk it?  Probably.. DON'T STEAL MY STUFF!

Okay... I'm going to do work.  Toodles!
